Sports Commission Announces Ben VanCamp's Departure

The Board of Directors of the Asheville Buncombe Regional Sports Commission announced on Friday that Ben VanCamp, the organization’s Executive Director, is leaving to pursue other professional interests.

VanCamp, who has served as the organization’s staff lead since its inception in 2010, has been successful in helping grow the Sports Commission from its infancy. In his time, the ABRSC has either brought or helped to oversee 48 successful events to the area, which have in turn had an economic impact of over $48.4 million for the community. The Southern Conference Basketball Tournament, LPGA Symetra Tour, Spartan Race and USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships are all examples of ABRSC’s work during VanCamp’s tenure.

“Having the opportunity to lead the Sports Commission has been a great honor and I am proud of the many accomplishments we have achieved these past years.  I know the organization will continue to thrive,” said VanCamp.

VanCamp has agreed to continue his work with the Sports Commission through the spring event season while a search is conducted for a new Executive Director.

The Board of Directors at the Sports Commission will begin an immediate search for Van Camp’s successor.  Individuals interested in the position should visit the AshevilleSports.org website for information on how to apply.

“Ben has been a great asset to the organization and will be missed,” said ABRSC Board Chair Stefan Magura.  “The Board is eager to find new leadership so that the Sports Commission can continue its great work on behalf of our community.”
